which would be stronger; 2 layers of 12oz glass or 1 layer of 24oz glass? im guessing the 2 layers of 12oz would be heavier (more resin needed because there's more glass to saturate). can anyone answer my query?

thanks,

assuming they are both similar plain weave,
i think the thickness of the 24oz fabric will be more than double the thickness of the 12oz stuff.
check with the vendor to see if i'm correct.

the thicker laminate will require more resin and be heavier.
it will probably also be a little stronger due to the additional resin.
(small consolation, but not really a big deal).

the thicker stuff will be harder to work with, especially around the rails.

lighter weights like 6oz and 10oz may make life easier.

unidirectionals , triaxials, or flat weaves WILL be stronger.
(less bends and more fibers where you need them)
S-2 or S glass would also be a significant step up.

the two layers will be stronger and any weight difference if correctly glassed and vacced will only be about 5%
