i'm interested in making a couple foam cored boards, made quite a few ply+glass boards already and would like something a bit lighter. the only problem would be that i'm located about as far from an ocean as you can get in north america, Saskatchwan, Canada, and therefore have no harbours to get any boat building supplies from. i supose the easiest thing to do would be to order some from the west coast. can anybody tell me where i might find foam locally, or a good place to order from?

We get alot of our material from this place called Jamestown Distributors, http://www.jamestowndistributors.com They have all the board building materials you need. The foam, epoxy, tee nuts, inserts, glass/carbon. They ship anywhere in the world. Check out there site.

How were you going to lay up the board?

That is the place I got all the materials to build my board. They got a guy there that gave me some pointers on vac. bagging also.

i plan on vacuuming it. my dad and i have done 3 or 4 ply boards vacuumed with a layer of 9oz glass on the bottom, they work really good but are kind of heavy, indestructable though.

The weight of the board has alot to do with the materials that go into the board. 9oz. glass seems a little heavy. I am sure it is bullet proof. We use tow sheets of Carbon, then a sheet of 6oz glass, then a sheet of 4oz glass for some of our boards. We have even done three sheets of 6oz and then one to two sheets of 4oz glass.

You can vary the materials to save weight or to strengthen the board.
