Gagged on the ~$1000US Flydoor wants for their XL, so now I'm thinking about trying to make a homebuilt copy. I have some experience with foam, glass (including carbon fiber) and vacumn bagging. Is there something--material or technique/machinery--that Flydoor employs that would preclude making a homebuilt copy? Don't want to start something I can't finish.

There is a lot more to the flydoor than just the outline.
The rocker combined with a progressive concave is hard to copy.
Also the underside of the board has a special matte/pearl finnish much like
the matte finnish on Aviso surfbaords.

It doesn't have to be the same.
As long as it's big, has little rocker and it's not too flexible, it will ok for lightwind. Play with the thickness to get a rigid board (in the middle) with flexible tips

ps, if you're in argentina using kiri (wood) is way cheaper, but weight might be an issue in a big board. Unless you use a thicker core to reduce the ammount of fiberglass needed.
