I was thinking of making a wood core for a kiteboard using a CNC milling machine. To do this I need a 3D model of a kiteboard to generate a program for the CNC mill, which I don’t have .Has anyone generated a 3D model of a kiteboard that they would like to share.

I'm studying Industrial design at the moment. quite fluid in Solid edge, solid works and Rhino. Most of these programs will alow you to generate the coding.... failing that you could always learn G and M code,,,, always interesting hahaha.

here is a board and bindings i made for a project/fun. The bindings were the actual project, modelling a board is very simple. Programs like solid edge and works will be better for what you are looking to do.

what kind of model do you need, it can be done in different ways. Easiest way is to mill flat core and than laminate it on a rocker table.

I was thinking of making the core out of a solid piece of Paulownia with both the rocker and concave shaped into the core by the cnc machine.
The bottom of my production board recently delaminated allowing me to see the wood core. The core was made from three pieces of wood laminated together .The bottom of the board had a quad concave design which would make it hard to make unless you used a cnc machine ?
So my plan now is to try a measure up my new board on the cnc machine and try to get a series of profiles so the designer at work can generate a 3d model of the board. The only trouble is getting machine time.
Any way it’s a long term project to fill in time when works quite and the winds not blowing.

no probs with model CAD/CAM its my workingday.
Machined concave yes but rocker it is just a waste of material IMHO.

rhino, solidworks, proE, IDEAS, the list goes on forever if you have money.

hein at Impact-3d.com probably already has a file and core whittled down to size, even as we speak.

however i got to admit.
milling the rocker out of a plank of wood, seems like a very poor way of keeping its good flexural strength.

IMO,
build a rocker table and lay-up your core on top of that.

or use one of the structural foams (divinylcell, corecell, etc), then lam with glass
or use cheap EPS for the core and lam with 1/16" wood and glass

perhaps play with a bit of plywood to sort out the details.
the list goes on.

I'm going to try and find a supplier of paulownia timber and get a price. I’ve decided to try and generate a rocker less 3d model of my own production board. I made a rocker table a few years ago when making ply wood boards so will use this to generate rocker when glassing the board. Not to sure on the amount of spring back once the board is taken of the rocker table? If and when I finally finish the wood core I will have to ask advice on a suitable glass layup for a kite board. Initial thoughts are to have two layers of 6oz on the bottom, two layers on the top with a third layer around the foot pad area.

his boards were make from pawlonia.
i doubt you will need much , if any, glass
his cores were approx 1/2 inch thick

my guess is just enough to set the desied rocker.
the solid (no transverse grain) core will be stiffer than any of your ply projects.
