Im new to the sport and to board building. Tho i have 30 years exp building boats.
Thought i would post my projects as they come along.

Planning on building 3 boards, cant kite till spring so need to do something to stay stoked.

Board 1 , Lite wind board.
Cedar core.
Poured rails. Flox and epoxy.
will be 12 mm at center to 3-4 mm at rails.
pictures are of the blanks,
building table for machining
template for router work,
inserts and poured rails done with a navy blue dye..

More to follow once i turn it over and machine shape.

dude, does your board have any rocker or is it flat? or do you intend to do rocker later when laminating and intergrate tensions in the board?

In the pictures its flat.
Ill do all the machining, like inserts,rail,fin blocks.
Then shape it from the other side to my finished Dimensions.
Then add the concave and rocker on the vacuum table.

Board sanded and shaped ready for vacuum table.

the end view does not really show the shaped curve well but at this stage its 3mm at edge and 11 in the center.

hi wavebreaker I have litle question about how yo make your core of laminated strips. Just want to know if you use epoxy resin for laminate this strips or any other glue??

Looking forward to the end result. As soon as I find cedar long enough, I'm going to try something similar. Good work.

I used a basic carpenter glue high strength sand-able yellow not white glue. Its made by lepages. can unclamp your project in normal room temp in 30 minutes or so. it has no reaction or adverse effect to resin.

Boards on the vacuum table as i write this will post some pics later.

Thanks for posting your progress. I am inspired to try this but I have a lot to learn. Can you explain to me what the purpose of routing the groove around the shape of the board is, and what the purpose of the epoxy and flox filler. From what I can see on your vacuum table, you have not sanded through the cedar to expose it... I assumed this was a way to protect the end grains from being exposed to the edge but from what I can see on your vacuum table, it looks like you have not removed the cedar on at least the top side... help? I figured once you were ready for glassing that the epoxy and flox would be exposed on the top and the bottom of the board, so I am obviously missing something here.
