Honeycomb has been used and has good characteristics but has some difficulties for small scale. Its is more difficult to shape for one. Secondly you just cannot lay cloth to it and wet out like you can on a foam core.

My suggestion is to use 5 to 6lb density foam core like corecell. Also quite common is to use wood strips built up like a snowboard core. Lots of option easier than honeycomb.

Good Luck

I have thought about drilling a lot of wholes in wood core. It would make core lighter and look like honeycomb ;) But I still have not tried. Has anyone? ;)

I have a core I made of birch plywood, with about 500 holes in it.
It took half a day and 2 router bits to cut, and it's far from perfect.
I think it is better to use lighter wood or foam.... ...maybe....
