I'm liking the looks of wood veneer on boards these days, and might try working with that. Bamboo seems pretty popular, but I'm not set on it. I'm in canada, but could ship to Hatteras where I'll be in a week or so. Has anyone done their homework and found thebest prices in this part of the world? So far, I've been surprised how expensive the stuff is that I've found online.
Thx, Peter

I think jellyfish boards does bamboo boards and is up in your neck of the woods. They look good and appear to be strong and light.

Hey Peter Home depot carries pine and oak and sometimes mahogany in 1ft x8ft or 2ft x 8ft. Pretty cheap too. The mahogany looks really good and it is amazing how strong it is over eps. My unfinished raceboard has pine top and bottom. The bamboo I have seen is really quite rough compared to the home depot stuff which is furniture grade.

Thanks, that site looks decent. Stan - how thick is your Home Depot stuff? I think what they have is around 1/16", am I right? Or did you find thinner stuff? If I have my units correct a 10 mil veneer is 0.010", 20 mil is 0.02 and for comparison, 1/16" would be 0.062", so that's a lot thicker than the veneers I'm seeing for sale online.

Yes, but veneer thicknesses are quoted in "mil", not millimetres. I'm in Canada, I know all about metric, but "mil" is not metric P

OK, that's much thinner than the guy I called at Home Depot. That sound like about 12 mil. Thx, I'll hunt around for that.

The actual manufacturer is Bennett Canada in Concord Ontario. It was poplar I used on my raceboard not pine. There is a store here called Glen Supply that will order that for you.
Good luck Stan
