Hi, so here I am down in Hatteras, and to avoid duties and cross border brokerage to Canada I had some Resin Research CE epoxy sent here. I just opened the box to double check it, half joking, and found out that they sent me the Qwik Kik epoxy and not the CE epoxy.

I called the shop (greelight) and now he tells me that they're basically the same, except that the final cure on the qwik kik is much faster. So, why then would they make the two different types, and why does their website say the CE stuff is the "absolute best for surfboards"?

I could send the qwik kik stuff back, but the CE resin is back ordered, so I might not get any at all before I leave for home. Anyone know how these two compare???

intended to cure fast enough to lam top and bottom in one day.

long story short, if you are set up to move fast, you'll like it.
if you need lots of time, to sort out a bag leak or infusion job you will be disappointed

Actually, I can't find tech specs on the RR website. I don't see the CE2000 listed, but maybe they call it the Project 21 resin now(?) Also, for the Kwik Kick, I see potlife #'s but not technical properties.

Thanks for suggestion Terrie, I did not get veneer yet, as long as I can get what I need in Canada there was no rush to oerder it before the Hatteras trip.

Good point about the pot life.... it might be getting pretty short for what I want. Then again my workshop in the basement rarely hits 70F, so maybe I'd have longer, as long as there are no issues with low temps.

I have read somewhere the quick-kik has excellent strength even better than the ce2000. But the cure time is really fast for layup and vacuum.

The kwik kick is supposed to be good but I too have had the wrong stuff sent by a (different) RR dealer on the east coast. In my case I got the blue stuff (uv resistant) instead of the plain 2000.
Whatever, it worked ok... but it would be nice to get exactly what you ordered.

you're right, they dont have much on quick kick.
truth is the mechanical specs given are not that relevevant.

-allowable elongattion (5%) is the big diifferrence between PE and EPOXY.
(will it stretch as much as the glass.

-the all have a tensile strengh around 10,000 psi
( compare to 100,000 psi for glass)

- workable pot life is listed (fast)

-UV resistance, clarity, adhesion to glass ,wet-out, and blush properties are probably good to know ( historicaly not so good for most epoxies but much better for all of the RR flavors)

From what I understand it replaced the fastest hardener system. It's fast and yet doesn't exotherm.

Hey as long as I'm here, I'll answer an old question of mine from almost a year ago. The Quik Kick resin is great for vacuum bagging a twin tip in a cool basement in winter. My work area is about 16C, and I can probably easily work things for 45 minutes, and I might get an hour out of it. I then crank on the heater, and warm it up to the mis low 20's in the shop, and the vac can be turned off in about 2.5 hours.

I seriously doubt I would buy this stuff for vacuum bagging in warm temps though!
