Split kiteboards for travel

Postby merl » Sat Jun 30, 2012 4:21 pm

The most recent posts on this topic are a couple of years old.

Anyone got any recent news on split kiteboards for travel? Who is still making them?

This one still seems live:

And these look cool but maybe a bit heavy (3.5kg bare, 4.5 with bits)

Maybe DIY from an old twintip is the way to go.

I made a three part board before and it worked out very heavy,
making the joins strong enough proved a lot of messing around.

A lot of airlines now charge for any baggage which isnt hand luggage,
so over sized board bags dont cost much more than a normal sized bag of
the same weight, depends on the airline.

Split boards aside,
interesting link to the seathrough boards, have not seen these before or
thought about this as a construction method.

It could be interesting to try this as a one piece frame, im sure that way
you could get the weight down a lot.
You could then have one frame with various bases of different sizes and shapes.

Has anyone tried something like this ?

Just to update with the latest info I found out.
