I took and old windsurfing board (around late 1980s) and cut it up into a freerace kiteboard similar to the airush sector v3 60. Check out the pics and let me know what you think. it has been too light to try it so i don't know how it rides yet. went with 10" fronts and 8" back fins. Hopefully it will be a good light wind board and go upwind well. only costed me around $200 including fins, boxes, etc.

Great job! Give it a bit of orange paint, and no one will see the difference!

The mast track might give it away though, but your mates will be livid when they see that you can fit a six-pack of beer on board ;)

The original windsurfing board was about 8 feet long then i cut it down to 5'8" ish. The widest part of the board i cut down is 60 cm but it holds this width for most of the board.

Yes i will definitely give it a sweet paint job when i have the time, although the retro 80's colors aren't too bad!

What about the weight ?
I remember windsurf in the 80s were 22kg approx.
Good idea by the way.

I have been thinking about copying your idea... Did you sail it already? I presume so...
Any lessons learnt out of it? (Weight, fin sizes/setup, strap positions?) I would like to know how it worked out...

Cheers.. Peer

How did it work out? I am working on a similar project, only this is going to be for both a foil board and a race board.

I haven't epoxied anything in place, yet, so I may be moving the Tuttle box for the hydrofoil farther back, and using that for a race fin box as well as the hydrofoil.

Here is the board the day I broke it windsurfing. It broke off at just the right place so that when I looked at it I thought "Hey, that looks like a kite race board".
