I very rarely ride on toeside in a light wind... :wink:

When i had Real feet, i needed the off-set on my wide board otherwise
my ankles would Hurt ; there made of SS now, so it's no longer a problem ! :(

Finally decided to go with a spleen monster door 160 X 45. I also got carbon (3K 2X2 TW 199 GSM from soller composites) and was wondering what could be the best set-up to keep it lightweight? I have plenty of 6 oz E-glass and was thinking that 2 layers of E-glass plus 1 layer of carbon on both side of the board would be adequate but I guess the prudent approach is to ask you guys first ;-)

Of note, I made my first board (135 x 41) with three layers of E-glass each side and ended up lightweight but also too flexible (see the flexy board topic for more details...). One thing that I am wondering is what would be the difference in flex between the two board if I replace one layer of E-glass with carbon on each side??? I do understand that it will be relative as the two boards hare have quite different lenght/width but still wondering anyway.

Any comments appreciated.

Hey Dany, I can't remember, how thick is your core? I would think that one carbon and one E would be enough unless the core is thin. But then again, I would have thought your 3 layers of E was stiff enough too. I wonder if that fine weave E you have is more flexi for some reason.(?)

Good point Peter, the corecell I have is A600 and 10.5cm thick... Unless told otherwise I will go with 2 E-glass and 1 carbon each side and we'll see from there... Anyhow I presume that light wind board such a spleen door are fairly stiff anyway as ther is minimal jumping, right?

I will post pictures as I progress.

I assume you mean 10.5 mm! :) I think carbon plus 2 layers of E sounds like a lot. I have 2 suggestions:

1 - make some test strips. Thin down some scraps with a router or I can give you some bits of 3mm corecell, maybe 6" long and 1 or 1.5" wide. Put 3 layers of E on each side. This replicates your current board. Now do another strip with one carbon and 1 E. With the thin core in the test strips you can flex them by hand and go by feel to see if the carbon plus one E feels more or less stiff than your current board.

2 - Use some offcuts of your carbon to add a few strips in the mid-section, and add that the the carbon plus one E.

In general, you have more material to bend on a big board so you should need less skin strength on a wider board. Plus, I don't think you can load it as heavily as a narrow board where you are standing right at the rail.

I am so anxious to finished the board that I never considered doing some strenght test on smaller pieces of corecell... I will do that and report back!!! It will also be a good time to try vac bagging two side of the board with vinyl and see if there is air bubbles or not...
