i own a rogue wave fat bastard : 150 x 50 cm, foam core fiber glass wrap .
i ride it as my light wind board ( witch it is ) and also strap less with wax on the top ( nice feeling).
but, i got miself a new light wind board and, as the rogue wave is pretty beaten up and pached i cant sell it.
instead i had a project, making it more surfy (as the board is already more surfy them most TT out there )
first idea was buying a pair of mako 90nor 100mm fins ( witch are surf fins drilled to TT holes ).
but, the fins would be really far behind the board !
so, question, would you think a beginner ( just pached the board with epoxy to fill in some little holes ) could ad some holes to the board to put the fins more in front and maybé one in the center behind to get a sort of truster ? would it be strong enought ? how to ad holes practicaly ? where to put them ?
shoulnt i be adding some fin boxes instead ? how ? witch ones ( i'm king of on the budget here as it is just for fun with an old board !! )
if i ad 2 surf fins, lets say 10cm in front of the regular TT fins and keep the tt fins, i would have some kind of weird quad set up ? would it work ??
any comments ? ideas ??
i was planning on adding a tail traction pad and get rid of the foot pads just keeping the straps !! so jumps, surfs and strapless possible on the back leg at least !
If its an old shitter board then give it a go. what do you have to loose?
Drilling holes for TT style fins is easy peasy. Drill oversize holes. maybe 1/2". Then fill them back up with epoxy and filler powder. redrill the holes to the correct 6mm sized.
that was mi fist gues, drilling oversized and fill back and redrill !
question, epoxy is ok ( for that small amount i will buy premix 2 seringes one from shop ) but filling powder or filling fibers ? witch one to get, where to buy them ??
i get the fact that a big hole filled back would be stronger them a small ( more contact suface to the foam ) but, is it enought ?
and, how do you get it to be water tight with th skins ?? would you ad a little glass patch ( round piece maybe 2 inch diameter ) on each side or the holes ? ( it would be a pain in the A.. cause i would have to grind the paint to get to the skins to make the patches tight ! )..
oh hmm, where would you actually put the aditional fins ?
i was thinking keeping the 4 standard ( 1,75 inch) fins on 4 corners, where would you putthe 2 aditional surf like fins ( i'm going to go with 2 ocean rodea 100mm fins ).
i would be standars TT one side and weird quad otherside !
not repainted cause i want to try it first before heaving to drill again in a new paint and as you can see there is still old wax on the board, did not feel like removing it !
wondering how that drives and if i can ride it reverse ? not shure !!
my call would be to mount a fin in the center at the back. make a 3 fin thruster set up run 1 kiss surf style fin in the center and your 2 back red fins in the 2 forward new fin positions.
