Wow - that goes some way to explaining the high prices of production tt's. So what's the cost if you only order one?? The latest ss tt, the widowmaker is over $1200!
I guess there is always someone who is willing to pay more for God knows what reason. Custom carbon weave which exposes shiny SS logos defenitely helps to increase the price.

Couldn't pass without noticing there is a lot of "dry spots"/bubbles in the carbon (2nd photo and the last one), so "Good" job SS :angryfire: (my buiding confidence just skyhighed :cool2: ).

2nd thing I noticed, channels do not form STRAIGHT bottom rails anymore!?

To answer some of the initial questions:

There are no fin inserts (except if you are talking about surf fins which need a fin box).
The idea is to seal the wood. You can do this by drilling bigger holes, filling them with epoxy and drill finholes after the board is finished.
it is good to make this kind of seal around inserts too.
All of this (+rails) extend your boards durability. Like Downunder noted. You can damage the rail during handling. If it gets wet it will go under sooner.
It's a pain wraping the rails with cloth, so that should be the main reason, why we do poured or plastic rails.

Define a topsheet? :)

Mirsad from Sweden sells Isosport topsheet for 10-15Euros a sheet. He is subbing as well.

Paulownia timber logs are $10/m on e b a y. How many boards from one timber? :naughty: :naughty:

Have a look at this:

See the joints? Duno how this is called, a finger joint? Biscuit joint?

The 'big boys' are not having any offcuts, they join pieces and make the board from this tiny strips.

Material cost is about $40-50. Yes, that is right. It is 10 times profit, not 100% but 10 times (if ordering 100 snowboards from China the price is 50-60 a board - they still making a profit)!

Production costs, I recon are lower, shipping cost and labor is not. But CNC = less labor.

What's adding a lot is a shop running cost, this days in Perth is $1000/per meter a month for good location.
