I saw this on a high priced board manufacturer's site. Looks like carbon additive mixed with epoxy to form the rails.
Seems like a great way to simplify your supply chain and re-use carbon fibre cutoffs.
Plus bonding should be easier than with urethane or abs.
Makes me wonder why we bother with abs/urethane at all

Hmmm, not too sure. I think all snowboard rails are urethane.

But, you're right. I never ever bothered with the ABS. Have a look for how long the orange - green color is crisp on my 120cm board which I ride for the last ~3 years...Epoxy would fade looong time ago. The PU is not even close to delaminating.

That pic above, man, they charge >1000 Euros for it. All materials are not more than 30 Euros, how much profit is that? And the CNC all the way. Good on them!
Hope they paint this expensive product, or leave it on the Sun and will cook in no time

It looks like HDPE...or something else as it runs all around the cross section ...something like thermoplastic where the core dived in and in a mold alltogether.

But very good idea...I will try...put carbon leftovers...in rails...I also want to use lava rock from volcano...I will try both!
ABS in rails is not my best aswell....even the result is nice...I like your PU green orange...I cant find it easily..

Iv'e always used PU but use epoxy for repairs, some have been so wrecked iv'e essentially rebuilt the entire rail from epoxy. Doesn't last as long as the pu but does the job, silica helps! Never thought of throwing chopped up carbon in there although I always have around the inserts (and never pulled one since )

I built my previous boards with ABS rails because, well, everybody else was doing it.

Maybe I'm not hard enough on my boards for it to matter, but it sure seems to be a selling point.

So the last wakeskate I built using no rails, i.e. what is called cap construction I believe. Basically a 3mm edge where the reinforcement and base come together.

And it's been fine. Its not like I'm babying it either.

For sure my next board will also not have rails
