Searching for a builder for my split twintip/hydrofoil hybrid

Postby Adventure Logs » Thu May 03, 2018 9:49 am

Looking for someone stateside who can build me my ultimate dream travel board. I currently average traveling to 20+ countries a year and I usually bring along a FS flysplit and Nobile Infinity split hydrofoil. I have dreams of the ultimate combination board to help my ever constant battle of reducing my travel gear weight. This summer I am planning on trying to build a plate to add to my flysplit to try to use it for hydrofoiling but I feel it's a bandaid fix. I realize that having an all in one board will be a compromise on all ends but I think it will be worth the smaller package. This is what I want on my board.

"W" style split connection like used on Flysurfer/Nobile splitboards
140cm or smaller
Slight concave but not too much to keep the twintip portion with still a decent range
Would love a topmat with some concave
Still fairly light weight.
Durable to withstand the wear and tear of frequent traveling.
Enough flotation to float with hydrofoil. Top mat can help with this.

Does anyone know someone with these kind of skills? I plan on using the Spitfire canard with 60cm mast and xxl wings. Is this just a dream which will never happen?

Cheers,

Jason

No problem at all to build - but board will be seriously compromised for foiling or for TT purpose or both. There is FUNDAMENTAL differences in rigidity in area of TT tip for TT and for foiling platform. Thats why SB hybrids are more common. Only possible solution for TT hybrid in my mind is additional plate under HF mount.

Or you can have totally old school style superrigid TT with some volume...

You used to be able to buy the ierofoil twinfix kit separately from the rest of the foil. Its a twintip mounting system that clips on and off the board. Might be worth looking at?

All the details of it are covered here: https://vimeo.com/237645967

You may even be able to 3d print your own?

Or use a OR Mako as a basis? Great but stiff TT relying on other priciples than flex... Concave and rocker do the trick...

I'm not sure that will help with the rigidity, and I'm looking for kind of a mutant style riding while on the foil. If I could get a Mako with the W style split connection, that would be great. I realize it's going to be a compromise either way but I'm looking for something that's like 75% twin tip and 25% foilboard. With the XLW spitfire wings, I won't need much power to get on foil and with it's slow speeds, touch downs won't be that big of a problem.

I was thinking the same thing about a twintip that could also be used as a foil board. Would it be possible to have a couple rigid long and thin carbon or metal pieces that do not flex up/down (because they are shaped in a way that does not allow it) and be able to bolt them on the top of the twintip along the sides? This would add rigidity for foiling if it works, while keeping the TT flexible. Two bolts on either side of the split for each piece. I'm thinking something that is long, but not as long as the twintip, narrow, but somewhat tall, like a toerail to a boat or something, but then tapered at the ends. Is that a crazy idea?

I can hook you up with a guy who worked on the development of this 'game changer', he might still have some of these boards in his garage ;)

Hi Jason,

You should try to contact Harold from Cogua https://coguakiteboarding.com/
He makes custom boards (Really good ones), and is located at Calima Lake in Colombia (think you ve been there).
He has a Twintip-Foil Split/Convertible concept that has a lot of future.
