Wind range of Rhino2 14 versus Rhino2 16

Postby Guest » Sun Jun 22, 2003 12:44 pm

I have an opportunity to purchase a Rhino2 14 but I'm not sure how it will fit in my arsenal.
What is the difference in the low end between the R2 14 and 16?
Does the 14 generates enough power at 12-13 knots (I weight 80 kg).
Thanks.

Maybe it is interesting if you share with us the rest of your 'arsenal'...

I own a R2-16, R2-12 and soon a R2-8. I weight 95 kg, the 16 I can use comfortably from 10 to about 15 knots with a 41cm board. At 14-15 knots I can already switch to the 12 with a 36cm board, which I can use to about 20-22 knots. The 8 should be comfy at higher winds...

As for the 14, it should generate enough power for you at those windspeeds, but again, the rest of your kites should determine the decision.

Hope this helps you

I bought R2 10M, 12M and 16M, they're a fantastic quiver :thumb: . 16M keep me going (comfortably) up to 12 knots, 12 M 12-20 knots (i'm 70 kg). There's lots of overlap between 10 and 12M ranges, tho.

Also i end up using 3 different bars: Cabrinha powerlock 51, 58 cm and SS 28" for the 16M.

Then i got a 2003 blacktip 14, it doesn't really add versatility to quiver, but it's a great kite.

3 bars?? I use all three sizes (16, 12 and 8) with the same bar. I use a North scepter bar with the small setup (52cm), even for the 16!

I have the following quiver Rhino2 20m, 14m and 10m. Excellent range covers all conditions but I also have an old AB 6.3 for insane days.
There is very little crossover with these sizes, as the 20m top-end is about 15 knots and the 14m is reasonably powered up by that stage. Anything over 25 I use the 10m for.
However, I am a heavy rider (85-90kg) and use 120 board most of the time now. The 20m has good depower so this is not a problem ever, but the 14m has an insane pull when powered up. If you are a lighter rider, then I would recommend the 12m as you find the 14m probably gets a bit hairy at 20 knots. But once you get use to the power then you will probably feel more comfortable with it.
Hope this was helpful.

James

Btw, I use the standard bar I got with my 20m with all of my quiver - works well no problems.
