AMP 8.7 between GXR 16.5 - 8 ?

Postby Felixhh » Tue Aug 26, 2003 6:26 pm

Hi,
maybe someone know the answer. I've got a 16.5/12/8 gxr. May i can hold the 16.5 too long or the 12 windrange is too small for me  . I'am lookin' forward to get a comfortable kite for 17-25 knots, with lift and the possibility to change to my 8 if the wind gets too strong. This won't work with my 12, i'd try differend trimm options and lines from 25/27/30 meters but that won't work at all..
Could be the AMP 8.7 the rigth one for me? Wipika's
windranges would match but I'am unshure because of test, reports
of the amp's. they're all wrote about the better low end power
and the small windrange.
My weight is about 75 kg, my Board is an 144 xshooter..
thanks for any advice

I'm not quite sure what you are asking but I've been using the 8.7 for a few months. It definitely is a lovely kite but it is very different from the Airblast that I used to ride. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that I weigh 70kg but I find that it is a touch too grunty for me. Wipika increased the bottom end quite a bit at the cost of top end. I also find that gusts convert to power unrelentlessly. The winds in the UK tend to be quite gusty which makes it hard work when the wind picks up. That said it boosts beautifully and is nice and fast. Personally I'm keen to find a a kite with a wider wind range.

A friend of mine who is about 85-90kg disagrees with me so weight will make a difference.

Sake, a frequent poster from Holland who I believe is around the 70kg mark, seems to absolutely love his Amps.

I read my name: so a reply from me :D

With 67kg I agree with asholl. But only in the smaller sizes <12m flat I would like to have more depower. For the >12m flat I think it's just right. Riding a kite <12m flat it's nearly always gusty overhere, which makes a difference too.

A friend of mine, 75kg, does not need extra depower. Not even for the AMP5.4(7.5 flat)

So yes, weight makes a difference and from my friends, mine and a couple of other AMP riders perspective, about 75kg is perfect riders weight for the AMP.

AMP Windrange
for 75 kg rider

AMP7.1 9.6flat 15-28
AMP8.7 11.8flat 11-24
AMP10.3 14.0flat 9-21

This list is about right minus or plus a knot. Notice the difference 85 vs 75kg
