Event - Kites On Ice - Madison, WI. USA - Feb 7th and 8th

Postby toyletbowl » Thu Jan 29, 2004 11:57 pm

You're officially invited to the annual 2004 Kites On Ice event in Madison, Wi. USA on Feb 7th and 8th.

This is an annual event that draws approximatley 100,000 people from all over the country and world to watch and participate in kite flying. The event will take place at the University of Wisconsin Memorial Union on Lake Mendota.

Snow/icekiting is really starting to take off and this event should be spectacular this year.

Our goal is to provide free basic lessons and training to anyone interested in getting into kitesurfing or snow/ice kiting.

If you already have the gear, come and ride and show your stuff.

I'll have 8-9 pairs of K2 demo skis including 4 or 5 pairs of twin tips (Public Enemy and Seth Pistols) for your riding pleasure. Don't forget your boots. These skis are insane on snow and in shorter lengths - perfect for snowkiting.

We will also be giving away at least one kite during this event.
We will also be building some jumps if conditions warrant. A "park" like atmosphere if possible. If you have extra snow, please send it our way. We have some, but need more.

Zach Young who is the lead/head trainer for REALkiteboarding will be joining us to help promote kiteboarding/snowkiting for this event.
For those unfamiliar with REALkiteboarding, they are based out of the Cape Hatteras area in North Carolina, USA and are a top notch kiteboard center.
Come meet Zach and talk smack.
Check out http://www.realkiteboarding.com.

We'll have kites to try and a few to buy if you're interested.

See you in Madison.

Sounds like a blast Bob! I would hop a plane and finally try out snow kiteboarding but I am tied up at work during the event.

There are some background photos of the rec kite side of things at the 2002 event:

That site doesn't show any of the snow kiteboarding that is going to be at this year's event. It sounds like you guys have some great stuff lined up.

Have fun up there!

Just got an update from one of the bros and the forecast for this week is to bring in 4-8" of fresh pow.

Once the snow hits, we'll be out building some ramps, etc to make this event one for the books. Come and join us and win a free kite.

Sounds great. I would appreciate the fresh powder myself for my clueless snowkiteboarding newbie slam-ins. Power just flys up into the air in a cloud on impact without a lot of pain, usually!

I came across a short video clip of a past Kites on Ice event. Lots of kids and rec. kites but it does look like fun and quite a bit different from conditions on Florida beaches right now.

Rick,

Cool deal. That clip shows the scope of the event and now snowkiting is really starting to gather a lot of attention and demand. We're getting a lot of requests from people all over. After the event, we'll post some pics on the forum.

Att: all gods...send snow and wind for next weekend.

If there's any gods out there, please honor this request.
LOL.
