overpowered can be hard to impossible.

So if u r overpowered and the board goes off ur feet u just lose it if noone alse help u?I pulled the kites safety leash one time when it was impossible for me to catch my board and went back to the beach swimming!Then on i use leash for those times am overpowered and the board goes off.I can use my x3 14m up to 25 knots without having any problem but when the wind is 20-25 knots i cant body drag upwind to catch my board!The leash is dangerous but i dont want to lose my board or stop riding overpowered!So i go with a helmet and board leash!!!

If you use a leash, then for sure use a helmet!

Either you release and swim back or you body drag to the beach or shallow area, walk back, or stay there for a while, then bodydrag back in the water to your board.
Before you do it, make sure you now where the board is and keep an eye on it.

Honestly? Never go out alone, that is a standard safety rule!!!

My friend lost his new board today in exactly this scenario.
Maybe leashes are a must sometimes.

Not using a board leash is great - If you can afford a board or 2 each season.

For those of us without that much disposable income (and an abundance of luck/healing prowess) - The reel leash is where it is at.

BEWARE! If you use the NSI reel leash when it is nuke'n, you may want to replace the stock, brass clasp with a small SS carabeaner(sp?) - The REAL kind (not the novelty keychain crap). The stock brass one will break if you blow up hard enough, and on those days you won't want to be body dragging alot.

So far, no problems at all.

If you can walk up wind your are don't over powered to the point that you can't get to your board IMHO
