periodic tidal surges. That river is full of croks perana and leaches so it does have it's price.

You forgot those little bugs that crawl up your todger :o
And pink dolphins.

There are similar tidal bores in Asia, but the one on the Amazon got some publicity last year - were they extra big for some reason?

http://www.boreriders.com/ here is a site which will give you more of an idea about riding river bore waves. The river Severn runs pretty much up between England and Wales. The tides in the Severn Estuary are the second largest in the world with a rise of up to 42ft. The tidal push sends the bore up the river with the river flow acting like brake agaisnt the tide, forcing the water to wave up.

Once I saw something on TV about it. The wave comes once every year. Don't know exaxtly why. Melted water from the mountains?

The natives in the jungle have no idea what this people with the weird suits are doing in the water. They are pissed because this annoys their god or something like that.

But it should really rock. Get a wave and stay inside as long as you want. In France I saw all these surfers in the water sitting on their boards waiting for a wave, which will be theirs for some seconds.

It is an artificial wave in the "Englischer Garten" in a park in the middle of Munich.
