QR tubing and cold

Postby viktor » Sat Feb 03, 2007 9:23 pm

This post is about quick releases of the type tube/pin.

Was out the other day in 40-50F and was quite happy coming off the water. Reach around to relaese the leash but it would not move, Maybe that I'm pulling the wrong way, so I look around but no, that is the way it should go.
After some struggling with it it releases but it would be no chance that I would be able to release it quickly in a serious situation. Once I had it off I took a look at what could have gone wrong, The plastic tubing that hold the pin had gotten stiff from the cold.
So this is just a heads up for those of you who use this kind of release in cold weather. Once again it is those 2c pieces that messes it all up.
