Where to kite in Brisbane

Postby remora » Sat Apr 21, 2007 9:30 pm

Hi All,

Quick one, we're moving out to Aus at the end of the year and I'm trying to do some research in to different areas where we can stay.

Near the coast for kiting but commutable distance to Brisbane CBD.

Anyone info much appreciated.

Gold Coast

Check info here:

Get in touch with "paulio" he is the main man and knows the area well as well as commutes to Brisbane for work.

Allthough if I were starting fresh, I'd be heading for Perth...

Perth is only a tad cooler than Brisbane and a heap windier. The Perth metro beaches like Scarborough, City Beach and Woodies are a ton better and closer to the CBD than Brisbane's metro kitesurfing spots like Brighton, Wellington Point and Scarborough (another Scarborough). Perth also has an abundance of great reef breaks withing a couple of hours of the city whereas Brisbane is mostly surrounded by beach and point breaks. The Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast have an abundance of open beaches within an hour of Brisbane, and both these spots are much nicer than the kiting in Brisbane.

Perth also has a much better economy than anywhere else in Oz. Wages are high and there are plenty of good jobs on offer. On the down side if you want to go on holidays it is a long way from anything. From Brisbane, it is a cheap 3 hour flight to say head over to New Zealand for some winter snowboarding. From Perth, it will take over 4 hours just to get to Brisbane or Sydney let alone before heading anywhere else.

We're starting to wear wetsuits here now in Brisbane on the odd cold day.
May/June and July are pretty cold and the wind is bad - eg rare to go kiting.
