R7 & Rebel on 1 bar: steering line length differences!

Postby mig27 » Sun May 06, 2007 7:25 pm

I own a Rebel 9m2 and since a few days a Rhino07 12m2. I only bought one North 5th bar (25m - 2007) due to the outragious pricetag!

For the Rebel I have shortened the rear (steering) lines with 2 knots (10cm/4 inches). Together with an extra pigtail on the 5th line of 5cm/2 inches in length the kites works fine. Both in low as high-end range.

Now having used the R7 twice on this bar I have the idea this kite works better with the original factory default setting. Unfortunately I had no chance of testing that today. I will do that soon.

Does anybody have the same experience?

don't know Rhino 07, but I use the same exact setup for my Rebel 12m and the 06 vegas 10m.

I don't think that same setup will work with a new Rhino, but..maybe...all you have to make sure is, all the lines have to be the same length when rolled out on beach, lawn or where ever you rig up. North is always the same: lines are same length, but their pig tails on each kite vary.

looks like the wind is back...time to go kite..!

No.
Not with Rebel 9m and R7 10m (demo) on the same 2007 bar.
Bar is set with backlines on last knot. (I made no extra knots at the backlines)

Thanks Sake!

My feeling was right then. I rode the R7 today with depowerstrap (clamcleat) fully sheeted in. With the wind ranging between 15 - 25kn I thought that was no good.

I think I will add longer pigtails (10cm extra length) to the Rebel, and a 15cm longer 5th line extension. This how I did it with my old kites, which also had a line difference.

hey mig27,

same thing with me... i tried my rhino 12 for the first time with my rebel 12 settings (back lines 2 knots shorter than stock) and it was definitely not right, it easily oversheeted in light wind... I went back to stock settings and it was better but not quite right, so I think I will lengthen the back lines even more next time...

some one else with a rhino 12 told me he rides his with the back lines on the longest (furthest knot from the bar) setting...

unlike the rebel which practically never oversheets I think the rhino is more sensitive... but then it could be the geometry of each size that changes... I seem to recall dwight riding his 10 rhino with his back lines one knot shorter than the front....

I have both rebel and rhino.
Rebel 2 knots down on back lines, rhino on the knot the furthest from the bar.

enjoy

I'm just returned from Egypt where I really enjoyed my R07 12, a green monster..... The set up I used is what provided from the factory and it worked fine.
which color did you take ? By the way I bought also the Rebel 9 :D.

Hi,

I used the same bar for Rebel 12m, Rebel 7m and R7 9m.
I did some adjustments on each kite pigtails but don't remember what

See you!

i have a rhino 9 and 12 ,i use the factory setup
and i thing that if you have nice wind the best setup is--
the back lines on the knot the furthest from the bar.
bye the way,, i want to take the vario cleat in the green position,
if i do this what is the best setup for the 12 and the 9 ..???

Yes, Faber. Most of the posts on this forum finally convinced me to go for this kite :thumb:

Since there seems to be a supply problem with this kite I could lay my hands on a yellow/black one, which is very nice looking in the sky (I do not care much, but all others were pink/black, no thanks  )

Since I have the Rebel I use the green setting, including the adjustments of the steeringlines to green. I have set-up the steering lines as loeuftok says here. Due to the heavy winds for a whole week (25 -35kn!!) I have not tested the Rhino again with this new set-up. But I have added some pigtails to my Rebel to compensate for the line differences. I do not like to adjust the bar for each session

Hope to test the baby soon again!

Why do I use the green set-up? My length is 180cm and this is the maximum distance I still can control the bar in overpowered conditions, using a waist harness. This is not very comfortable (used to have a 14cm depower line on my Vegas05's), but most of the time I pull the bar or use the sliding stopper to release some stresses on my arms during cruising.
