Rebel 9M crunch up

Postby Battlejuice » Tue May 15, 2007 3:59 pm

Hello there,
Just wondering if anyone flying the Rebel 9M has had any incidents of the kite folding in on itself when diving it through the power on a relaunch or simple slide turn?
It does unravel after dropping it in the water but it has me a bit spooked given I normally ride the 14M Rebel, which I really likem and this has happened a few times. :-?
I appreciate smaller kites are a lot faster and this may not be particular to the Rebel but I wanted to know if anyone else experienced anything like this? Does anyone know why this happens (i'm guessing I must be doing something wrong).
Thanks

Had the same thing happen to a student of mine when
5th line got hung up on chicken loop.
Check to see if the lenth of 5th line is too short.

That might be it. Only thing is the leading edge states it shouldn't be pumped to more than 6psi which is pretty soft. Reckon i'll just pump it up a lot harder next time.
Thanks :thumb:

As stated here many times before: pump both the LE as the struts rock hard! It will improve the flying characteristics of the kites, but especially stability and relaunch are a lot better!

Try it!

I have no PSI meter on my pump. Just feel if it is firm enough. 6PSI should be enough. As far as I know the pressure gauges fixed to some kite pumps are not really accurate. Maybe that is the problem!?

Do these two things:
- Pump hard
- Check if nose line is too short

You need to lengthen the fifth,
do a search rebel 9 there are some great tips on how to rig it.
or just go here

Thanks for the tips lads. Was just a little cautious with pumping too hard. Heard someone saying it wasn't good for the leading edge to have it pumped too hard but 6psi on my pump gauge is very soft.
All the best

pump it up harder like they all said.
Shorten back lines to (I fly on yellow)

maybe lengthen 5th... do you use the bar and lines the kite came with? if not, you are f*-9ed

I fly the 12 and never had that happen to me....ever !

I got it inverted by fucking up, but as soon as I noticed and it crashed, I pulled the 5th like 2 arm length and it flipped and BINGO..like it was designed to do...
no twists

point is: react fast to recover kite !

Have seen two of them tore in half , one on the surf and the other when the wind got really strong cause a storm and the owner released his kite middle in the power zone.

In both cases user errors

Other than that nice kites, you can see quite a bit around here

Have been told the small sizes rocks, the big ones ( 12+) are ok. ( never tried one )

Saludos

Had the same thing happen to me two or three times when i tried a 9m Rebel a few days ago. I think it happened during a front or backroll when I oversheeted the kite when landing. The middle part of the leading edge bended inwards. I didn´t set up the kite myself. I guess it could be too little pressure in the leading edge and/or a too short fifth line.

This incident put me off a bit, otherwise I liked the Rebel a lot.
