Dakine Tabu, why the name?

Postby psychokiter » Sun Jun 10, 2007 2:36 am

Why choose Tabu? What's tabu, the sport of kite surfing? How does this apply to the harness? Please enlighten me.

What does it really matter? Just a name.

Warrior, Waroo, Yarga, Crossbow, Switchblade, Contra, Rhino, Vegas, Fusion, Nano, etc.....

Just names.

Hey great, an etymology thread!

"Da Kine" is a pretty interesting name itself, in pidgin hawaiian it seems to roughly translate to "thingummy".

Tapu (or tabu) is a concept existing in many Polynesian societies, including traditional MÄÂ

"tabu" is not a hawaiian word...there is no 'b' in the hawaiian language.

i agree, its just a cool sounding name, kind of like 'you can't touch this' a la m.c. hammer.

All this is rather interesting. Your replies have been appreciated. Is Waroo a hawaiin word as well? Now, I'm starting to wonder about Wazoo which I believe was a take-off from Wizard. I always though DaKine was some dutch guy's name like Gaastra.

Best like to use Australian Aboriginal words...Yarga- not sure?, waroo - fire, also one of the many names for kangaroo, Bularoo - the Creator according to the Djabugay people of northern queensland.

Wazoo? Assmaster might be able to tell you...
