How Many Kite Injuries Since You Started?

Postby JBo » Sat Jun 23, 2007 5:14 pm

Don't anybody tell you but kiting is a dangerous sport. Push hard and you get worked hard.

I've broken my ankle twice, shoulder separation, elbow tendinitis, tweak my back and many more aggravating injuries.

I have considered retiring from the sport but big air and wave riding keeps pulling me back.

maybe we have to differ from the styles?
Big air and waves, as well as speed and race should be less dangerous than kitelooping and wakestyle. Here many have knee and shoulder problems.

I don't do handle passes, because I don't want to get injured.
I do big air and barely drop may kite. Little injuries so far, nothing major.
Hopefully it stays like this.

Cracked Shoulder from a massive overpowered kiteloop in water that was WAY too shallow and various knee and ankle sprains from different tricks.

Stitches in lip - 01 accidental k.loop
stitches in knee 03 k.loop knee hitting board
elbow tendonitis - under control after crappy 03 kites went bye bye
shoulder surgery labrum tear from sending kite huge crashing with arm out 04
ac joint dislocating other shoulder from handlepass practice under tree- can't even do pushups now
jacked up wrist from k.loop crash 05

Yeah, i got into kbing back with the sent handlpass crap. That is the worst for the shoulders.
Keep the kite low, huck it, don't dangle, and the shoulders will love you for it.

I could possibily be the injury king here; seems at least twice a year something happens but in a nutshell: 5 times to the hospital for stiches and staples [ I'm presently sidelined with 10 staples in my shin from a fin gash]; one time I got my leg tangled in the lines and the kite relaunched and strangled the shit out of my poor ankle; swelled up like a baloon but no blood; and the grandaddy of them all, lofted on the beach by a 16M, slammed into a keawe log and evaced by ambulance to the ER with a recovery time of 5 nights for fractured ribs and 2 punctured lungs; all this spread over a period of 6 years; not bad except for the hospital job; I'm pretty accident prone; must be working out some low level karma....Kite safe!!

saving a kite for a girl

Postby kite2fly » Sat Jun 23, 2007 9:18 pm

As my subject said, I was in the water, a girl lost her kite, A Cabrinha with no leash attached, instinctually i ran after the kite because her kite was going down the street, finally got to the kite and hold the middle line with my hand, because she ejected herself from the chicken loop.

The kite fly again, got dragged on a rock with some ouster on it; result got a clear cut on my knees.
At the end of the day i was in the hospital for sewing my knees, shit

Broken rib, strained ankle, for the rest I support Toby. The occasional easy wakestyle tricks are no problem...
