I didn't try the Spleene, but I have tried the Nobile ext which I was very positively surprised about. Very easy handling, very early planing. Also consider the North Phantom LW, which is a similar board. This is the one I chose in the end, and I'm very happy with it. Can sail and go upwind now from 10 knots with a R7-14. (btw: 95kg)

This reply probably didn't help to much. The best tip is to try them of course!

Hi

I tried the old Spleene door and a new 666 135x46 or something, not quite as big as the EXT, anyway the Spleene door was better for me I don't like the super wide boards.

FYI I ride Crazy Fly boards and don't care much for lightwind boards at this point, just my feeling about the 2 boards you asked about. Better though to try and demo, some people will prefer the EXT...

The Door goes upwind earlier - it's an ultra light wind board.
I'd rather compare the Nobile 666 ext. with Spleene's Session or RIP Plus.

Take care!

german Kiteboarding.de did a brief review of early planers and Spleene door 164 is a must if you wanna squeeze it. EXT was ranked no 3 after the second smaller door and for someone focussing on classic outlines it´s the one to go for. SS glide was also a good rated one but more technical to ride. Spleene unveiled the monster door now with 50cm width, so the planing threshold has been set even lower ..

The Spleen is a better lightwind board than the EXT, but the EXT is a better board.
You will get going earlier on the Spleen but its a huuuuuuuuuge boad and it feels like you have a canoe on your feet.
The EXT is a good light wind board but it feels like a smaller twin tip and is alot easier to turn and jump etc than the Spleen.
In fact I learn most of my tricks on my EXT in light winds before going out with my smaller board in stronger winds and trying them.

This topic comes up periodically.

You can't go wrong with either board. They are both among the best made boards out there. Depending on what you are trying to do, one may fit your needs better.

The Door 154 is slightly better in super light wind, but doesn't quite release from the water as easilyt as the EXT for jumping. The EXT might also slide turn a wee bit easier.

Both have excellent foot pads and straps, although the Spleene's come with toe grabber ribs -- not that it matters that much with light wind. But the Spleene's square tips send up a little more spray too. But it also fits in a standard board bag too (it's not too wide).

I think the cost is about the same too.

-Disclaimer: My shop sells both brands. (Flame on.)

I have a 2006 Door 64 which is 164x45 and I used to have a 2005 Door 159. I would not give this board up for anything other than another Door. The board is big but once you get used to it you can do tricks with it. I use the Door only when the wind is light but it has saved me from sitting on the beach on many occasions. Today was just one of those days. The wind was 10-13 knots and I tried to go out on a smaller board and was able to go upwind but I had to work at it. I switched to the Door and I went flying upwind. I rode it for about 3 hours straight.

BTW Spleene now makes a Monster Door which is 164x50. I really want to get one but I need to sell my Door 64 first.

Hi victor

I have not try the The Door but i have slighshot glide and is incredible that you are going with few wind.

I have try the nobile,is incredible and very polyvalent but you need more wind.
for one side you need 2-3 knots more but it is funnier
