mako pro

Postby ziik » Sun Aug 19, 2007 10:44 pm

G'day all,

thinking about getting a mako pro (134) board.
Just having a few q's.

will there be new grafics for 08 or is the 07 the same?
could I mount "wake" bindings instead of straps or would that be hard because of the narrow with and the concave?

How would you guys compare it's lowend to the mako surf (150) and also other boards out there to give me a genereal idea.

Thanks
//Joel

Better lowend then 150. (wider)

I guess wakebindings will not work. deck is to much curved for this.

The board is awesome. Very nice and comfortable board which is in my opinion good for freeride. 150 is faster en better in the waves though.

2008 will have new graphics. http://www.oceanrodeo.com/crew/gallery. ... OISSES_PMT

I owned and used often the 150 for a year and the 134/Pro for the past half year. I concur with dwarf's comparisons completely.

well, there is indeed new grafics. But the question is if they will be incorporated on the pro aswell as the other models.

I also understand that it will have better lowend then the 150 due to the with.

But comparisoms to boards of other brands would be useful.

thanks

The Mako pro is not that much wider (35 vs 34 cm on the Mako surf) so will it make much difference realy?
The pro looks to be a bit wider towards the tips though. Hmmm...

indeed, one centimeter cant make that much of a difference. My memory served me wrong. Had 38cm burried in my head for some reason.

well well, do you have one yourself Urban? Or to stoked on the 150 to be bothered?

The 150 wide looks interesting to. A board for less wind with the "same" feel.

Tips are way wider and pro has less rocker. Furthermore it is 35 cm with 18mm concave. If you would flatten out the concave it will be about 38 cm.

The pro has more low-end. I didnot say that the difference was huge but I responded to your question.

Think I will get the pro soonish. Since I just don't use my other shorter boards anymore.

Cheers all for your input.

The mako wide-
I had a chance to ride this "wood core" beauty at Nitinat a week ago and its not like the 150. The rails are rounded and thin like the 134 mako pro.
Actually felt like it had some flex. I think for a big guy, 190lbs and larger,
this is a great all conditions board that rips upwind and is super easy to jump. At 205lbs myself, I felt that it definately would take you down to the low end of your kites range, but a big fat wide board might still have an edge in the super lite range. For lighter riders this could be the ultimate lite wind weapon, that you could still use with comfort if the winds jacked up.

mako pro-
This is my favorite ride from 18 knots on up to 40 plus. I'm not sure it has the same low end as the 150, its so much shorter in length, but they are very close. This board works better when you are powered up anyway,
on smaller kites for me at least.

These 2 boards really compliment each other, since they share the same rail shape- rounded, not sharp. I could see myself getting a wide, its so easy to ride and provides a rider with a lot of options- upwind attacks,
x-cellent speed, rock solid turns and bomber durability.
