Contra 08 safety / kitemare

Postby Ponchevez » Mon Feb 25, 2008 8:27 pm

last saturday I used for the first time my new contra 08, I had a really bad experience and I wanted to ask you guys what the hell am I suppose to do if the kite gets tangle up with the lines and doesn't fly anymore.

The override was always on and the kite always had power, I had no way of stoping it, and it took me far far into the ocean I had to let it go and swim to shore, so my question is, what should I do ? I was told on kite classes that I should swim towards the kite and tangle all the lines on the control bar, but that was impossible. Also I was told to attach my leash to a loop on the right or left line so the kite doesn;t have power, but the cabrinha doesn't have a loop on the side only on the center, any advice ?

you should attach your kiteleash to the ring on the left frontline!

The ring beside the red ball on the front line.

Thanks Ronnie !
so after attaching the leash to the ring, what should I do ? should I start to tangle one line ? this is in case I'm deep water. I'm a noob by the way.

didn't you get a course? if yes, it is not a good course, this is the first thing you should learn.
if no, get one before it is too late

in the mean time, you can check the different "safety" topics that have been posted recently.

In almost all cases you dont want to swim towards your kite (Contra). If you are a noob, i would recommend that you leave the beach with your leash attached to the safety ring which is on the front left line (as already mentiond). This way if something goes wrong, which can happen to anyone, then you can eject from your chickenloop and the one line will flag the kite. There will still be some pull but no way near as just pushing through the override. Wind up your lines, grab your kite and swim to the beach with kite inflated. As a noob you want to ensure you are totally comfortable with all your safety systems, as this will give you more confidence with things go wrong.
Sorry to hear about your kite.
