Why the need of the power trim?

Postby perroloco » Thu May 29, 2008 4:52 am

Forgive my ignorance but I own a T2 and never use the power trim. I just pull and push the bar for total power, medium power or no power. Why the need of the power trim?

Even more depower, when pushing the bar away is not quite enough :bye:

if you had a good kite that behaves properly then you'd understand.
if your kite goes from full power to no power at every force of wind just by moving the bar with no trim then it's a sign that your kite is to sensitive to bar movement and doesn't have a mid range.

I think of the "power trim" more as a tuning tool. If I am over powered and want full power (bar pulled in) to be something less than 100%, then I adjust my trim strap. It is all about where in the bar travel your kite is optimized. I think.

Two reasons.

1. So you can ride with your arms in a comfortable position.

2. So you can trim your kite to ride unhooked.

I will add one more :

3. So you can walk comfortably on the beach !
(no matter what kite, it always feels more relaxed on land, especially if walking, when trimmed to depower a lot)

Good reasons above, if you do not unhook then the trim is used mostly for setting the position of the bar in a comfortable location for your arms.

It also allows for a shorter throw on the bar, but still have full depower buy pulling strap if wind picks up.
Useful if you have short arms.

It also allows for tuning when your lines stretch.

I flew a mates T2 14m a few times and really hated it and know where your coming from because if you depower it you then cant turn it!!.....it has a massive range but with slack back lines it wont turn.

Lucky you .... we kite in winds from 10 till 40 knots and if you dont have a full quiver of kites to cover the different conditions ( minimum 3 kites ) you´ll need the power trim a lot .
