Hello all-
I am really interested in getting started in this sport. I'm 32 and live in the Huntington Beach area of California and thought that this would be a lot of fun and great exercise. I am looking for advice on the type of equiptment I should get when I am just getting started. I don't want to overspend for something I am just getting started with. Does anyone know of any really good deals on beginner gear? I am 5'9 and weight about 190lbs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

did you already get lessons?
If not, you should!
That will also give you a lot m ore info about gear...then you can ask again to know more about what you want.

Thanks Toby!
Maybe I look into that. I looked at one place that wanted $400 for one training session and I don't believe you ever even made it into the water. But I will look around and find something, thanks again,

$400 sounds quite high for lessons. Check around with some local shops in your area to get the inside scoop on things.
But definately get some instruction.
The beach near Long Beach[Belmont?] is near you. Check out the action there and talk to some riders. They should be able to steer you in right direction.

Yeah, Belmont is only 20min from here. If I am not mistaken, I think there is a shop down there too. I will check that out. thanks for the help. After looking, I found a much less expensive place that I will try. here's the link:
