waroo 07 vs waroo 08

Postby Naby » Sat Sep 27, 2008 5:57 pm

I am new to kitesurfing. I am looking to buy a new kite. The local store offers discount the Waroo 07 or Waroo 08.

Does anyone compared the two? Is there a big difference between them? Keep in mind that I am only a learning beginner and that I am interested in something that would be easy to fly and foregiving in case I make mistakes.

The price difference is around $90. I am looking for a 11m2 kite.

Thank you

For a $90 difference buy the 08!!!! It will come back to you in resale value. 07 had battens that were a pain in the neck, 08 is stable without them. 08 has improved bridle that minimizes backstalling, and gives the kite more range. Important if you are starting with only 1 kite, and also beneficial to a beginner who might tend to oversheet.

Had a 15M 07 and upgraded to a 15M 08. 08 turns faster and flys better when powered but I thought the low end was a signficant step back. Thought it might be the back line settings so I called Best and the customer service guy I talked to said the 08's lost a knot or two on the low end but fly better when powered. I even flew it on the BC setting and gave the kite a bit more grunt but slowed it way down. Didn't seem like a good tradeoff for what I want to use the kite for. What Best told me was exacltly my experience. Wanted the 15M as my light wind kite so I sold it to get a kite with a better low end. There are plenty out there. Overall disappointed.

I have heard a number of people say that about 08 low end. I fly an 07 13m and love it. I'd say for only $90 get the newer model but you might find an 07 really cheap somewhere and it's an awesome kite.

If you're new to the sport buy used. you're going to trash that kite anyways. can find a great deal on a used '07.

Hell, buy a couple while you're at it. 2 used kites are way better than 1 new one.

Thanks for all the comments

I was considering buing used at first but I am worried about air leaks. It's not something you can easily check before you try the kite for a while, is it?
