Nobile 666 EXT or Jimmy Lewis Flight Deck ???

Postby vojtech » Thu Sep 25, 2008 7:10 pm

I am split between the two boards for light to moderate wind and my 15m Omega. I am 195lbs. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I own the the Nobile EXT, Great lite wind board. I also own a Jimmy Lewis Model 3 (high wind), not exaclty what your looking for but I can tell you the Jimmy is a great carving board but it is way to fragile. Go with the Nobile. Even though I love the way the JL rides I recently cracked the top deck and would not spend money on this kind if divinicell core/ epoxy board again, way too fragile.

I've ridden both boards. I weigh a bit less than you (180 lbs) but here are my impressions on both boards

Jimmy Lewis Flight Deck

- good in choppy conditions although you need to make sure you keep weight on your back foot
- goes upwind well
- smooth riding board like any Jimmy I've tried
- plans quicker and I could ride it in similar low wind conditions to a spleene monster door
- liked it better than the Nobile board

Nobile 666 EXT

- footpads were very uncomfortable - too much arch support for me
- didn't go upwind as well as the JL
- caught a lot of spray from the tip digging into waves
- didn't handle chop very well

Both boards flown in similar conditions on a 16m C kite.

That being said I actually bought a 5' 8" surfboard and use it strapless as my low wind board. Much more fun than a twin tip and then I have it for waves! :)

Flight Deck. I weigh 195 as well and love it. Works well in the moderate chop I kite in on the Chesapeake Bay. With my 15m kite it gets me upwind when others on smaller boards are struggling just to stay planed.

Just rode it yesterday in those conditions. As someone else said, just keep more weight on the back foot in chop, it's a big board and does throw some spray when it gets rough.

Demo one if you have a chance.

I weigh 235lbs and have a quiver of light wind boards. For pure light wind I ride the SS Glide. It is the best board for me. The EXT just doesn't cut it. Not flat enought to get me upwind when it's light. When the wind picks up allowing me to ride a smaller board I can go right to my 666 135x44. I have found the 666 to be excellent for medum-light wind. No need for the EXT.
