I am spending next week end in cascais (2nd w/e of may).
Are there any good kiting spots right there and schools or shops where I can rent some gear?
Also, any good website to check wind conditions (beyond windguru)?

Hi there!
The closest good kiting spot to Cascais is the worlwide known Guincho beach!

The winds are usually 25% stronger then the forecast due the thermal and venturi effects that occur there and the best site for forecast is really Windguru. Also check the live webcam HERE

We have a Kite Store right at the beach and you can call us to arrange you any gear you need on 00351 926 221 981 !

Hope to see you riding the wind in Portugal soon!
Best regards,
GUSTYKITE

I am staying at hotel Baia, Ave Marginal in cascais (I have no idea where that is, friends made arrangements). Do you know how far it is from your school? what's the best/easiest way to get to you?
steph.

Hi! The hotel is one of the best options in Cascais! :thumb: Nice downtown close position and great view!
We'll be pleased to have your feedback too!

CLIK HERE for the easy and perfectly landscaped Estrada do Guincho that connects Cascais downtown to Guincho Beach...

Or choose THIS ONE to run away from trafic ;)

Once you get there you can get any gear, tips, or help in our Store in Guincho or directly with our instructors, just give us a call!

I am looking for a place to kite in Portugal in mid June where:

- there is a very high probability of wind.
- there is some flat water (the flater the better)
- there is a place to stay right on the beach (or walking distance)

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

A.

Hi there!
In Portugal there are 3 very probable windy spots, as they all work on Thermal winds in the Summer(June to August) from 15 to 30knots:

North: Viana Castelo (Cabedelo)
This is an harbour so you have pretty flat water, glassy near the peer, small waves(0,5m), unreliable forecast: there's wind almost for sure, as long as the day is hot or the forecast give more than 10knots!
You have a camping park right behind the beach.
Windguru archive

Center: Guincho beach (Cascais, Lisbon)
Flat during some tides in the inside, but open sea with up to 3m waves.
The winds are thermal and venturi, so if the day is hot, there's some wind after lunch! You have Hotel Muxacho right on the beach and a camping 500m away. (get in touch for more infos on our partnerships)

South: Alvor (Portimão, Algarve)
Here you have 2 spots, river(lagoon) and sea. At the sea the water is pretty flat but the wind is sideoff shore (there are some rescue services in the beach but not specialized in kitesurfing rescue). In the lagoon you have flat water and waist deep water in high tide. The winds here are also thermal and venturi, so if there's hot, there's wind from 14pm, and if the forecast shows 15knots, count on 20!! :thumb:
We have some appartments in the beach, walking distance from the lagoon (can send some photos, get in touch for more infos)
