Weird declaration of War by the IKA against some Comp riders

Postby Anabatic_co_nz » Fri Dec 11, 2009 7:59 pm

This statement just posted on the IKA web site is a very aggressive move and I don't really like the tone and underlying theme it represents.

Didn't the KWPT and PKRA exist long before the IKA, so why the big issue if they want to stay separate?
If the IKA is wanting me/you to join their new World order, this is not the best way to win support.
Surely they can find a way to accept that not everyone will want to work under their umbrella.
Kiters have always accepted 2 World tours. Punishing riders for their affiliation to another competition organisation is not progress.

Annulation of Starting Eligibility for Competitors of the KPWT/IKF
Friday, 11 December 2009 11:51

We regret that KPWT and IKF have chosen to divide the international kiteboarding community by going their way separate from IKA and ISAF.

To protect the interests of our national members as well as the thousands of competition kiteboarders they represent, we will have to request ISAF to impose Regulation 19 (Starting Eligibility) on any competitor taking part in any future IKF / KPWT event or in events of their affiliated partners from 2010 on.
This means, that all such competitors loose their starting eligibility for official IKA/ISAF sanctioned events, this includes the PKRA tour as well as the continental european and asian tours, and national championships.

The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) is the only world wide governing body for any kind of sailing sports, including kiteboarding, and as such recognized by the International Olympic Committee. The International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) is the only kiteboarding class inside ISAF.

IKF (a new “association” calling themselves the “world governing body for kiteboarding) and their affiliate, the Kiteboard Pro World Tour, therefore disregard the worldwide respected structures and have to bear the consequences.

Why would anybody care about the IKA ??

Nationals, not in the power off the IKA to control those, just like that??

Or is there something I can't see @ the moment???

Please if so, tell me..

IKA are a scam
WORD!

PS:
I start to like the IKF. By claiming that they're the "world governing body" too it's obvious that anybody can do it.

All riders are now invited to participate in free
"Expression Sessions" on the IKA courses during IKA events.
Extra points for crashing kites into comittee boats or judging stands!!!

"IKA are a scam"
So is IKO.

"Why would anybody care about the IKA ?"
For the same reasons as why nobody should care about the IKO.
Supposedly they are setting standards (good idea, but they are not alone). But they do very little to check that they are being implemented. They are far more concerned about cashing as much fees as possible by luring riders into becoming IKO certified instructors, and finding new ways to squeeze more out of them once they got their first badge.
A supposedly World Governing Body of Anything can be respected as such insofar it is not a commercial organisation nor has ties with some players of the industry (or be part of it).
If and only if it is a non profit "open" organisation it can deserve true recognition.
Can anyone explain how IKO functions and who is behind? Go to their site. There is nothing to introduce who they are. Just the injunctions "Learn with IKO", "Teach with IKO", "Affiliate with IKO". That's the Coca Cola strategy; "Drink Coke".
Whilst new schools are really hot getting the IKO logo on their front doors to gain immediate respectability, many oldest established ones are pulling out realising they were only being milked without any return.

"probably not legal"
