LF HIFI 2009 12m

Postby Chriskef » Sun Mar 21, 2010 7:08 pm

I hear the 2010 HIFI Comp is set to be one of the stand out kites for 2010, if you are measuring sheer thrill & excitement. So, was the 2009 anywhere near as good? There are so many of them on the market, used & new, at less than half retail, which makes me a bit suspicious?

I'm really looking for a big boosting kite with good low end & range for a 95kg rider wanting to ride from around 14kn. I don't ride in waves & 100% depower aren't priority. Any other suggestions other than the HIFI?

Thanks

Chris

the hifi comp has wicked low end... seriously ridiculous.... i really dont think you will be disappointed!!! the regular hifi is suppose to be along the lines of the havoc for low end... i just got rid of my 09 12m havoc witch was a wicked kite just not my style too light on the bar for me but it had terrible low end!! i do ride boots 100% of the time on a TT though!!! if your really looking for the low end go comp and it is higher aspect as well i believe for the boosting...... if your just looking for a good kite to throw down unhooked either will be awesome...

i dont think you will riding anything but a fat surfboard in 14knots with a 12m HIFI weighing 95kilos.
I never found the low end all that great after riding the kite for a season ..... BUT if you are powered its a sick sick kite for unhooked stuff. never really got into boosting on it but i hear it can hold its own. at your weight you might want to look at the 15m for a bit more grunt.
I am riding the 13m 2010 at the moment and find it has slightly better low than 09. LF have come out with another siick kite this year. i have also heard good things about the envy that looks it may have a better low end in the 12m range.

Really? The 11m 2010 has the same low end like my 12m Comp 2009. You should try the wakestyle setting + the lightwind knots on the backlines.

But yeah I agree. A 12m won't be enough for 95kg to be powered. Better get the 15m 09 or even better the 15m 2010 which offers more grunt. Too bad that there wasn't a 2009 15m hifi comp.

I was hoping I'd get away with a 12m HIFI to replace a 14m Nemi - the wind ranges for the kite were more than the Nemi 2 years ago but I guess thats marketing blurb to be taken with a pinch of salt. Are there any 12m kites out there that would work for 95kg rider from 14kn, excluding the sle/bow/hybrid market?

i imagine the 11 has the same low end as the 09 12m, the 13 is slightly better. True that it is better on the settings you say but i find that it oversheets when i unhook on the lightwind settings, so i have to depower the kite to trim it correctly. so i dont use this setting too much
the kite is sick though, i love it.

I think you need at least 8ms, and a efficient board to get going with a LF Hifi 2009 12m.
I think the Nemi, being a SLE kite, has better lowend than the Hifi (I have not tried the Nemi).

If you insist on using a small kite at 7ms I think you should look for at North Rhino 2008 or 2009 or a f.One Bandit dos. I have a Rhino 2008 myself and think it work well in the lower part of its spectrum opposed to the hifi's which like a bit more wind.

For me with 110kg I use the LF Hifi 15 from 7.5 to 10ms (upper limit for 15m: 12ms), the I switch to the 12m hifi.
Is the wind weaker than 7.5ms I use my old Rhino 2008 16m. A grunty monster, but works very well in the bottom of its range.

With a weight of 95kg I think that you should accept that you need a 14m or bigger kite for lightwind.

Just my 10cents...

what is that supposed to mean? I do understand that kites have more grunt if you attach the frontlines further to the back, but how are you supposed to increase the lowend with the backlines? further back for faster steering - so generating more appearent wind?

Right. Fast steering setting + the knot closest to the kite = lightwind setup.
(The lightwind + standard setup are marked on the pigtails so that everybody knows how
to trim their kite correctly.)

And when you put the frontlines to the wakestyle setting the kite sits further back in the wind window and get a bit more grunt but it's a little bit more difficult to get upwind.
