Just got back from demo-ing a new 2003 "kite skirt".

It rocks!!! It adds at least 3-4 knots to the low end of your kites, and provides unbelievable float on jumps (ala Marilyn Munroe).

I figure, if you don't mind people making fun of you for wearing kite pants, you might as well be wearing a skirt!

There are a number of reasons you wear them:

1. Its cheaper to replace kite pants than a wetsuit so if you do wipe on sand, it protects the wetsuit.

2. In hot temperatures, you might want full body protection to prevent sun burn (you heard of skin cancer?). Kite pants are light enough not to restrict you like a wetsuit, and not as hot as a wetsuit, so wearing them in hot weather works well. The right sort of kite pants should keep you cool in hot weather when they are wet, but dry off quickly enough so you aren't stuck with soggy pants the whole time.

3. Because some people think they look kewl. (I don't think they're anything spectacular.)

4. Because they hide scrawny legs on some people (myself included). My legs look like they should be dangling out of a nest and my calves look like they went out to graze.

5. Maybe that one millimetre of protection is enough to save you in a shark attack (he he)

I, along with most of our locals, wear kite pants in our Summer for protection against the deadly box jellyfish. Some of the crew choose instead to wear either pantyhose or lycra stinger suits. Come winter, I'm glad to ditch them and just wear a pair of boardies simply for the comfort/freedom.

The ones that wear pants are the ones that want to "look, i'm soo cool".
I see no other reason for that.
It may look like but, i have nothing against it . It's like painting your hair (sorry Toby, i am not being sarcastic )

Mandatory in Thailand and much of Asia - water is 80+ degrees and there are lots of jelly fish - need long sleeve light short and light pants.
