'kite Squamish' New from the KiteSites.com series

Postby jkiter » Sun Aug 31, 2008 3:49 pm

SQUAMISH was awesome when we were there this summer. If you've never been there, you'll want to add it to your list after watching this:

I'll be posting another episode from Squamish in a couple weeks, so if there is anything anyone wants to add, (announcements, safety concerns etc) please let me know by posting something here...

Awesome.
I wish kitesurfing had been invented when I was living in Penticton.(16 y ago)
Was Windsurfing then, but obviously kiting makes way more sense there.
I'll be back for sure, one day.

Looks a bit colder then Hawaii... I am not sure if I was in a wet suit in summer surfing with OgoPogo. Might have.
Seen her as well, btw.....was a log, but still.

Thanks for the great video jkiter, it captures the essence of our great local spot here at Squamish.

Squamish offers reliable winds all summer for smooth flat water kiting. On a good day we have over 50 kites in the air. The Squamish Windsports Society operates a retrieval craft and maintains the launch area.

Squamish is the only place in the world where you can actually be cold on a 33C day in July
(glacier water= 46F= refreshing)

You can actully chill a 6 pack in less than 2 minutes....

and the water is warmer in the winter when the glacier run off stops.

we should actually advertised it as the coldest kitebaording destination in the world... :thumb:

Only river is cold water coming from top mts
in summer warm water at spit's bay and open ocean bay
expect early spring and fall cold water when if chill windy

But in winter coldest north windy hit squamish and if anyone kite there
also if kite broke or line broke then u would be far drift to ocean away from spit as not worth
in winter better kiting at greater vancouver of acidian beach , tawsween ferry terminal , boundary bay or crescent bay etc

Wow!! squamish is funtastic! My partner and i got of a plane from NewZealand to Vancouver and drove straight up there . What a great set up for setting up the kites and launching. Great to see well organised and super friendly people running the spit . thanks for a great time . We kited 4 days in 25 knot plus winds which were pretty smooth , loved the flat water and watching the locals bust out some great moves. Squamish is super!!! cant wait to go back.
