what to learn next?

Postby Eduardo » Thu Jan 06, 2005 3:21 pm

I've been kiting about 30-40 times now. I can do small jumps and reasonable transitions. What should I work on next and what are some tips as to how to do it? Or what's the next easiest/most fun thing to do? Front rolls? Bigger air from riding overpowered (which I can't do well yet)? Or ...?

Thanks for any advice.

Ed

It's all fun
I started just staying upwind and cruising
I would say that cruising is so fun why do I need more
Then I started jumping
And It was all about air.
then to your question
Back rolls are easier
Commit, it's all about balls
Not hard to do but if you chicken out that's when it hurts.
I couldn't even do a flip off a diving board so they scarred the shit out of me.
Once I went for it I was surprised how easy it was.
Don't send the kite Leave it at 11:00 or 1:00
Get a little speed
It helps to have a little chop or wave but not needed
turn upwind put pressure on your back foot and a little pressure on your front hand.
look over your front shoulder hard.
come around and again use back foot pressure and ride away
It happens fast.
At this point all I wanted to do was rolls
Learn both ways so you transition go the other way and unspin your lines.
Then the front roll
This time you send the kite.
back foot pressure on the board
let go of your back hand (important)
pull down with your front hand
chase your front hand with your head.
This will cause you to roll.
keep pulling front hand. (not too much on a small kite for it will underloop)
with this roll you are higher and can spot your landing.
sometimes if to high you can do a small board raley to control your spin before landing.
Land a little downwind and then edge upwind.
redirecting your kite with the front hand is so important to land powered.

Also remember that back hand you let go of
Use it for a tail or indy grab as early in the learning process as possible
agian it's easyer than it sound because you don't need that hand for your bar

You are ready to try backrolls/front roll without sending the kite as seastrystf27 said, grabs (tailgrab, indy grab), try rotations in your jumps, then rotation with grabs etc...

yeah,
what´s also very easy: tabletops. Try it 2 times and you can do it.

in light wind conditions i like backrolls combinend with transitions. also easy to learn.

big airs are boring i think.

if you have enough power try little chop hops, if you can do them try little loaded jumps. i was surprised how easy loaded jumps are.

next step: combine everything...

Still fun to go big but you need to do something up there
Always try to do a board grab or something.
Thanks
Joel

thanks for the advice guys! I'm also a person with a mental block to being upsidedown or backwards, especially when strapped to a kite ;-)

But I'll definitely give it a try. I wanted to make sure the next big thing to work on was within reach for my skills and it sounds like this is it. Great
tips.

I just had a session with no crashes so I know I'm ready for a new challenge!

Joel said it well above. Rolls and rotations are the next thing for you. It really helps to get a DVD where you can carefully watch whats going on. My favorite is The Complete Kiteboarding Guide, but there are others.

Have fun

Try doing Big airs over berms and sandbars
That's not boring
Way dangerous so I really don't advise it

(But it's fun   )
