5th line around ctr. strut???

Postby ox » Fri Jan 14, 2005 1:46 am

old school 2003 amps
I can sew... There are some nice reinforced areas on the main that I coud sew to
But I was looking at some other guys' rigs online, and I liked the idea of putting the 5th line around the center strut. Someone with a gastra did it :)
What do you think? Which would be better? Anyone else do it? I know the gastra guy liked it.
I'm holding out until 06 for new kites, but I'd like to jump on the 5th band-wagon for the time being :bye:

I did this just yesterday with my 10m Tension. I had a piece of thick spectra that was about 4 feet long. After I looped it around the center strut I hooked up my 5th line that runs through the hole of my powerlock bar. The wind yesterday sucked and my kite fell out of the sky about 15 times because it was so up and down. The 5th line worked like a charm everytime and not once did my lines get tangled like they did with a center or outside line.

Make sure you trim the 5th line so that the kite doesn't fly upside down but will actually sit on the water.

It works well, I did it an my huge slingshot 19 ( 2003 model)

some friends are doing it on Aero 1 kites , never heard of a problem.

I think it is simpler and better than sewing something.

Do you think it puts too much pressure on the centre strut? If not it seems like a great idea because you can easily remove it without difiguring the kite.

i did it with my one pumps and the strut is more than strong enough,,,,the problem is that the spectra that goes around the strut can really mess with the inflate and deflate valves,,,and could easily deflate your kite. i now have to sew on an anchor point and redo the system so that can't happen

Both my 15 and 11m SS feul 04's have the truts sewn in the cannopy all the way, so i really dont see how to put a line around them. Maybe a picture?

I did it this weekend and it worked great. If you have a ss w/ split strut I think you have a pump leash. Just use that. I'll keep you posted if there's any tangle of the 5th and a tearing of an old kite. Figured I'd try it out on some old kites before buying into the system with the new kites. :bye: Thanks for the help
