Thanks for the info,

I live in Virgina Beach and would like to know if there are any other people there that kitesurf. I'm getting lessons from a frined from the Ntherlands, but he will not be here after the 9th of May, so
I really would like to meet up with a couple of other kitesurfers. Does anybody know where you can rent some kite gear? or does anybody have some extra? I have my own gear but my Dutch friend does not have his gear here.

Thanks,
Kitebabe

Is VA Beach near Dewey Beach? Or is that on the other side of the big bridge? If it's not too far, I'd recommend speaking with Dave Loop at H2Air in Dewey Beach. Super nice guy, will get you the right gear and lessons if you want. http://www.h2air.com

dewey beach is in delaware...you drive long time....

all of my friends from va. bch... just drive here to hatteras....
it is so much better, especially for learning....

miles and miles of uncrowded beaches and waist deep water....

and lots of shops....

follow signs to nags head (168 south)....that turns into 158 south
at nags head...then take 12 south at cape hateras national seashore...
about 2.5 hrs unless you drive like a f%$#^& maniac....

Thanks for the info. I'm 5 mins from the beach, so it sucks it's not a great place to learn. I'd heard that Sandbridge is decent and then I was thinking possibly the beach off of shore drive. But, I can definately get to hatteras for a few weekends.

I went to college at ODU so I can point you to some places to check out. For sure you should learn down in the sound in or around Nags Head. Hatteras is a little further to drive but is still ok for a weekend trip. You want the waist deep sandy bottom places to learn. After you can stay upwind with confidence you can try some of the great places around Virginia Beach. We used to windsurf Chick's Beach. That place can be really fun on a NorEaster, but watch out for the current there it can be dangerous. 83rd Street can have good wave riding. There are a few good places in the Bay for sure. Watch out for afternoon thunderstorms in VA Beach. In VA Beach the lightning can come BEFORE the storm arrives. This used to kill tourists every few years.

As an alt to vabeach and Hatteras you may want to head north across the bay to Cape Charles. There is a shop called Southeast Expeditions with website gogetlit.com. They do lessons and boat assisted downwinders.
