bladder volume

Postby Baboon » Tue Aug 09, 2005 11:08 pm

Anyone know the volume of an average 13meter leading edge??. Or specifically a RRD 13 type z .Struts too would be nice. I cannot access the RRD site to ask them.

Just wondering, why? Not the typical question.

Combined Gas Law: (P1V1)/T1 = (P2V2)/T2

Question....If I had a 50L container and pressurised it to 700kPa (101psig) at 25degC (298degK) what volume would I have available to inflate my kite to 41kPa (6psig)

Answer....853L

I was thinking this myself because I got hold of a stainless style eyewash/fire extinguisher and on my way down to the beach, I call into the service station and using the tyre-inflator, charge her up.

How do you like them apples?

Look at your pump. It probably states the volume per pump. I think my Cabrinha pump says 2 litres.

Then count the number of full strokes that it takes to fill the bladder, but not pressurize it. Then you'll know the volume of the bladder.

Inflate your kite fully, submerge it in the swimming pool, noting the difference in displacement height thus converting to volume :thumb:

fill your bladder with water and weight it....1kg~1liter :o

no seroiusly why do you need to know?
you could quite easily do an estimate calculation from the dimensions.

Guess I will have to talk to RRD when I get on a PC that can access their site. Charles`s law and Archimedes principal aren`t gonna help me fellas(I don`t have a pressure guage, thermometer or pool that could accurately measure pressure, temperature or displaced water and it is clear you don`t either). The pump doesn`t state its volume and I am not in the position to measure its volume at the mo(the best suggestion). Neither will the area of a cone x 2 as I dont have the measurements to work it out. Curiosity killed the cat...but you tell me and I will tell you

Thanks anyway!

I reckon about 150 litres....bring in the lifting gear

i'm having a wild guess here, but are you planning on filling the LE with helium to make the kite fly by itself in light winds?

not gonna happen.... the difference in weight of the kite with around 150 litres of helium in it would be less than 200g ... there is just not enough volume there.

pfft. morons. just fill it with beer! count how many bottles it takes to fill the kite and you'll have the volume. (don't shake it!) then tap that bitch and have a kite kegger for your friends while you drain it.

yes, i know, sometimes the simplest solutions are easily overlooked...

(i'm guessing this is why Baboon wanted to know in the first place. he's just asking so he knows how much beer to buy. if that's the case, good question! )
