wind strength north ceara in september?

Postby mede » Sun Jul 23, 2006 1:10 pm

hi everybody

in september, my wive & i are going to fortaleza & north along the cost to kite :D

regarding the strength of wind: will my wive (55 kg), intermediate rider, be able to hold comfortably a 7.5 m2 kite (takoon wook), or is the wind too strong?

(e.g., in playa copal, the wind was often too strong (gusts up to 40knt.), while la ventana was ok (rather steady 32 knts).

I'm askikng cause if the wind is blowing in the high 30ties, i gonna buy a 8m2 EH ripper now, otherwise i wait for next season.

thanx for your info in advance :thumb:

September is really one of the best months.
In Cumbuco you can find 18-24 depending on the day. Paracuru is a bit stronger, like 20-28 at times and of course as you move up the coast the wind is stronger.
You can sometimes find gusts up to 40 knots, but luckily everytime we were there it was only 25-30...
If you are starting in Fortaleza and moving up the coast, she will be fine on her 7.5.

I am 52 KGs and was on my 6m and 8m C kite the entire time (6 months) I was there.

If you see a slew of Land Rovers on the beach, wave hello, it will most likely be us :)

I heard August and September are the strongest month...with 20-30 knots, and further up even more. 18-24 ar emore from October to January in Cumbuco.

Agree with Toby. Was the last 2years like this and I was here to watch and to kite. Most seen kites were men: 9-7m girls: 5-7m.

In Cumbuco last year, guys were on 10-12, women 6-9 depending on weight. The only time I saw a guy on a 7 or 9 was in Jeri when it was blowing 28-40...

could be if she is a light weight.

But wind comes and goes during the day, meaning lighter in the morning, getting strong at 11, peaks at 2pm, then mostly drops in the afternoon.

So if you don't want to buy a smaller kite for her, it should work too.
Anyone who can confirm?
