My new best yarga. droping out of the sky

Postby Guest » Sun May 16, 2004 11:10 pm

Hi i just bought an 16.5 13.5 and a 9m yarga. I flew the 9 today and the winds were somewhat gusty it was about 15kts. I had several instances where the kite just fell out the sky. I was also have a problem with the kite because when i started to get powered up the kite was flying very fast across the window and i was out of the power zone before i knew it. I am a beginner and had a toro 18 before these. Do i just need to fly for a while longer and get use to the kite or could i be doing somthing wrong. I liked the power from the kite and the turning was really unreal compared to my 18. If you have any advice please let me know.
Thanks chris

Sounds like you are flying it in too lite a wind for a 9m and seeing as you mensioned it was very gusty, thats not a good combination.

Agreed!

Depending on your weight of course I would have used the 16.5 in 15knts, but I'm 88kgs.

90% chance you are oversheeting the kite like most newbies do. When setting up your bar make sure that when you pull the bar down to the bottom the tips of the kite are not flared out more than a very small amount.

Totally agree with brownee.

Also, if kite overflies, pull the bar, if it drops backwards, push the bar.
if its gusting over10/ 12 knots - watch someone else.

If you're a beginner, to drop the kite in gusty wind is normal. esp. if it is like 7-15 knots.

7-15kts that's a 50% gust increase.......on a 9m it isnt going to work....yeah 15kts solid flying on the beach or maybe body draging....it's not rocket science its kiting.....it's ment to be fun?

I remember going out in anything cause you were just stoked to be out there, even if you did only have one kite and it was a 7m...you didnt care the wind was up 10kts or 25kts you gave it a go.

Just had my first good session on a 13.5 Yarga in gusty wind and no problem with stability, average around 15knts.
