Suitability of Firewire Surfboads for Kiting

Postby amplatzer » Wed Apr 16, 2008 9:03 pm

Hello,

Does anyone have experience with Firewire surfboards for kiting? Durability, performance, etc?

If the boards are suitable for Taj Burrows, WCT surfer, then surely the performance is there...

The original FST balsa rail construction is guaranteed to break if you add straps.
A great soft responsive ride that is rarely equalled, just not really tough enough for kiting.
(4 have been broken here by relatively small, average riders in the surf)

The newer Direct Drive or Rapid Fire carbon rod construction may be tougher ?
I believe these were developed due to the durability problems of FST construction.

MODELS
The Quadraflex model is quick, stable and goes upwind very well. (My favorite)
The FlexFire model is quicker and a traditional three fin design.
The Taj model is a potato chip and just not enough wave power for my 78kg.

MJ

did you see this podcast

viewtopic.php?t=2354550

it sounds like Fone and firewire have some kiteboard plans, but I did not listen to it as I find those podcasts really annoying..wish they would transcribe them so we could read and skim over the bs that isn't interesting

hi guys
the firewires just don't stand up to kiting and in my experience from the amount broke this winter they dont stand up to surfing either!
check out the new Resin8 boards, super strong and heaps of performance
cheers

four kiters in Spain have just ordered four Firewire boards to be used for kiting, because one of us had very good references from a kiter who lives in Maui ....

we ordered three 5'6'' small thrusters and a quadraflex 6'4, with sticky pads+footstraps .....

the guy that imports and sells them in Spain is Jordi Palma, who also shapes kite and windsurf boards

Mine works great. Since i've just started using it, I'm not sure about the durability factor. So far, I'm stoked! :D
