In Cabarete, Dominican Republic, Laurel Eastman Kiteboarding (LEK) is a successful Kiteboarding school and retail shop that has been in operation since 2003. We are looking for a special management level candidate to lead this growing business and direct the LEK team to the next level. Reports to: Founder/Owner – Laurel Eastman

Duties:
• Manage and mentor 15-20 team members, working directly with the Head of Guest Services, Retail Shop Attendants and Assistants, Head Instructor, Instructors, Assistants, Equipment Room Attendants to ensure optimal efficiency in business
• Staff scheduling
• All employees in the facility report directly to the General Manager. The GM will provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance to all LEK Policies
• Audit the workplace organization and Team Members behaviors to ensure that training, feedback, and improvement methods are accurate and consistent
• Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, evaluations, assigning duties to staff as required
• Responsible for all daily operations at LEK and must enthusiastically assist all positions including Retail Shop Attendant and Equipment Room Attendant which will include such tasks as serving guests, registration, check-out, opening, closing, sales transactions, providing equipment to students etc.
• Responsible for monitoring financial aspects, basic accounting and payroll, producing and analysis of sales reports with a focus on facility profits and losses and a goal to increase company profitability
• Operate computerized inventory record keeping and re-ordering systems as well as Microsoft Office programs to produce reports, media, records etc.
• Inventory management including making orders, organizing delivery logistics, and annual planning
• Measure LEK’s performance and identify a plan for LEK to implement and amend all identified deficiencies
• Deliver on-time and quality projects including special marketing or financial projects assigned by the owner
• Problem-solving in a very fast-paced and dynamic environment, and applying systems and procedures to prevent ongoing issues
• Handle situations in the best interest of both guest and company while showing empathy for the guests’ situation
• Builds long-term relationships with guests
• Product expert – Gain complete knowledge of all Features and Benefits of each product in the retail shop
• Work accurately and with an eye for detail

As required and directed by the Director/Owner:
• Marketing and special events planning
• Selection and ordering of new merchandise
• Management of Kiters 4 Communities non-profit charity projects
• Suggesting ways to improve LEK product/services and helping to implement approved ideas
• Any other tasks/assignments as directed by the Director/Owner

Working Conditions:
• Position is full-time 8 hours/day with a 1 hour lunch break, 6 days/week, with a regular day off that may be changed due to staffing requirements
• Environment is confined to a small air conditioned retail shop on the beach; in front of the shop on the beach and the kite equipment room
• Employee will spend most of his/her time on his/her feet
• Laptop that moves from shop to locker room “internet station”

Employment Requirements:
• Possess a thorough understanding of the Dominican Republic working environment and preferably experience working in a management role supervising Dominican staff
• Experience managing multiple nationalities and/or living in foreign countries
• 3+ years of increasing responsibilities in customer service and/or management
• Formal education and experience in business, sales, and/or tourism is required; Bachelor's degree is preferred
• Accounting and/or bookkeeping experience preferred
• Excellent command of the English language in both spoken and written forms
• Any other languages, especially Spanish, is preferred
• Strong understanding of and commitment to customer service
• Excellent listening skills
• Hard working with a passion for excellence
• Must be flexible regarding shifts with experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organization
• Forward-thinking, always identifying areas of improvement and following through with each task started
• Shows excellence in work and personal ethics, sets an example and the tone for the team
• Is capable of problem solving and able to handle a variety of challenging situations
• Is professional in all interactions with team, guests, vendors and partners
• Kiteboarding experience is preferred, but not required
• Has a pleasant, friendly, positive and enthusiastic style; Happy and athletic
• Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy
