How to shorten an older North bar

1. Using a 4mm drill, drill into pop rivet, top will come loose, take it out.

2. Take off ends of bar.

3. Measure and cut off 50mm each side, using a simple grinder with a metal cutting blade.

4. Use a sharp blade (we call them Stanley trimmers) cut, scrape away as much bar grip as you need to slide back on the ends of the bar.

5. Using your 4mm drill, once again drill a hole into your bar where the rivets will go.

6. Then using the pop rivet gun, put a rivet in the hole drilled. Rivet size is shown in the photo attached.

Are you sure the old rivet was aluminum and not stainless?

No Dave it's a 2012 North Ali bar and the original rivet was aluminium.

You are shortening the bar to slow the kite down right? What length are you using for the bigger 13m-18m kites?

24/27/32 depending on water and wind conditions. 24 is my go to for timing sake. Sure length can slow the kite down, but the timing and vertical height for me can be comprimised, plus you tend to get more of a pendulum effect (for me) escpecially at 32. To be honest the bar is for my 10m dyno mainly on 24m lines. Except when on the ocean and hitting big kickers, then I want it as fast possible for as much height as possible. All depends on what I'm trying to improve, learn on the day, taking into account water conditions, wind strength and type and also what board I'm on at the time.
