question for West Australian (Perth) kiteboarders

Postby lagr01 » Tue Feb 08, 2011 4:59 pm

Hey everyone,

I'm living in Perth (Freo) and thinking about getting back to kiteboarding. I used to kite a while ago (early 2000s) and left it because of time, another hobby and long distance from good wind spots.

The question is which kite size would give me the broadest range in Perth conditions?

I'm around 82 kilos and looking for a kite that'll help me get back on the board with the least hassle possible.

I've also noticed there are more choices design wise. Back in the 'old days' was mainly 4 line C-shaped. Any ideas on whether I should look for c-shape, bow or hybrid?

From what I've checked on the interwebz, most 2nd hand kites priced in the range I'm willing to pay right now are from 2009. If anyone has possible models to recommend, feel free to do so. Please don't start a brand bashing match.

Cheers

The kite you choose very much depend on what you want to do.

freeride? freestyle? wave? race?

I'll not go into specific brand here but i would not recommend any second hand kite unless absolutely necessary, you don't need the latest design but 2010, this would save you a lot of money and a lot of hassle.

I would say a 10m is the best all round.

Any brand is all good, use it and when you know what you like look at getting a new one after you have taken some for a demo.

Thanks for your replies guys.

I think I'll be mostly freeriding, and then when I feel more comfortable maybe start trying other stuff like waves and a bit of freestyle perhaps. I never had the chance to ride enough back in the old days because I was more focused on another hobby and the good wind spots were a bit far from home so I didn't get good enough to do anything other than just freeride. My kite was a North Toro 14m.

Anyway, thanks again for the replies everyone.
