Atlanta GA, for beginners

Postby Smeer » Fri Sep 16, 2011 4:51 pm

So I'm moving to Atlanta GA & was wondering how is the kitesurfing destinations look like there, I'm still beginner/early intermediate so I'll be looking for something beginner friendly!!,
Is there any destination within a driving distance that I can go to in weekends?, I know SC would be the closest but is there anywhere else? Any kitesurf community in Atlanta?.
Thanks in advance

wow, you consider 300 miles to the nearest beach to be "within driving distance on the weekends"?

Hey,

Tybee Island is the closest from Atlanta and is a great place always local kiter out if the wind is blowin. Saint Simons Island and Jekyll Island are also great and not far from each other. They are about an hour further than Tybee (which puts them close to the Charleston drive). SC and Florida are a bit further; however, offer lots of option also.

We also have Lake Lanier; however, you may want to get some experience under your belt before tackling that gusty place.

Have some less than 24 hour old food at the Varsity on North Avenue when you get there. Unfortunately, I don't think it's a good place to live if you're a kitesurfer.
