Hey been looking at the EVO's for a while now. I want to get into paddling and want a board with some volume for our crappy mushy surf. I'm thinking about the 5'10" for paddle and I have a 5'7" Wainman Gambler for better waves when we get them or I travel.
Any body have experience with this board and might be able to give me some 2 cents?

What is your weight, and surfing level? It's like asking what size kite you should get without telling people where you ride.

A 5'10" would practically be a SUP for you.
Probably say 5'7"ish. I'm 150 and a 5'3" feels like a small wave board.
Would be worth going on the firewire forums and asking.

Thanks I'll check out the Firewire pages. Our waves are not the best at my local area so I do need some volume. Getting close to 40 now so might not be the best time to learn to paddle either but hey why not right?

"Crappy mushy surf" get a 9ft longboard - you will have a way better time. Few ever take this advice, but you will never sell it - even if you get others boards in the future - you will not want to.

agree with longwhitecloud. in your (our) situation 1 board isn't gonna work for both things without compromising too much.

Yeah I agree that the board would not be ideal when the waves are good with a kite. I need it for the days when the waves are not strong enough to keep my 5'7' from sinking as soon as I get on the wave. I don't plan on chasing crap surf just to be on the water. It is the main reason why I have never picked up surfing our surf is that bad most of the time.

My Evo tweek is 4-10 x 18,75 and has super concave deck, 15mm thin in spots. For normal kiting when there is no need for me at 80kg to go larger. Except in lightwind.
I can't imagine anyone but a super fit, little, surfer being able to paddle this board. I suppose a guy like Rob Machado ( Spelling?) could paddle it.
I've kited my 9-2 sup once, a 5-8 for 4 years, a 5-0x 21,5 for 2 years, and a 4-8 for a season. Settled on 4-10 as good length in compact design. So you better get a bigger board to paddle!

Get a 5'8", plenty big with the volume it packs.
I still have some evo curiousity though I recently opted to buy a board from the future instead....
